Discover what it was like to live in a 19th century mill town. Take a walk along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath through the Weaver's Triangle - a well preserved Victorian industrial townscape. Examine buildings from the days when Burnley led the world in weaving cotton cloth - weaving-sheds, spinning-mills, warehouses, foundries, domestic buildings and a school.
The Weavers' Triangle lies along a section of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, built between 1770 and 1816 to transport raw cotton and finished cloth. The textile mills and factories that still line the canal present a complete picture of this important Lancashire industry at its peak. This journey into the past begins at the Toll House on one bank and, after passing 31 different features, ends on the opposite bank at Nelson House, one of Burnley's few remaining Regency houses.
The visitors' centre is situated in the Wharfmaster's house and canal toll office.
Oak Mount Mill has restored engine, originally steam, now powered by electricity. Ring for details of demo times.
Disabled access: Ring for details, visitor centre accessible with help to ground floor (2 steps), basement accessible from rear, upper floors not accessible.
