The home of Samuel Crompton inventor of the Spinning Mule. Hall i'th' Wood was purchased, restored and furnished by William Hesketh Lever, later Lord Leverhulme, in 1902. it is a grade I listed building and scheduled ancient monument dating from the fifteenth century, of half timber and stone construction, in its own grounds. Ten rooms are open to the public which are furnished with items from the eighteenth century. The most important items relate to Samuel Crompton. Regular activities are provided for pre-booked school parties with particular emphasis on cotton spinning.
