The engine house is situated beside junction 21 of the M62.
Hours of Opening: The engine house is in steam on the first Sunday each month except January from 12 noon until 4pm. In addition to the operation of the steam engines, most dates have extra events. Please ring the Engine House before your visit for further information.
See one of the finest examples of a giant steam Mill Engine in the country. The engines, Alexandra and Victoria, were used to power the Ellenroad Cotton Spinning Mill. The mill has gone now but the Engine House, complete with its steam-raising plant and 220 foot chimney, is in preservation. See the 3000hp Mill Engines Victoria and Alexandra, Whitelees Beam Engine - built in 1842, Steam Electrical Generator, Lancashire Boiler - coal fired, Picnic Area - free parking, Engine House, cafe, books and souvenirs. Often there are other attractions on steam days.
Disabled access: Yes. Access for the disabled is well planned with a chair lift to take people from ground floor level to the engine hall.
