The story of Saddleworth - a Yorkshire community on the Lancashire side of the Pennines is brought to life in an old canalside mill. Learn about the farmers who scraped a living from the hills by weaving cloth in their homes. The men, women and children who endured long hours in the woollen mills; men who tunnelled through the Pennines to take the canal and railway eastwards. You can see, hear and smell the textile machinery in action on special Working Days, when you can talk to volunteers about life and work in the mills. And there are demonstrations of crafts, behind the scenes days and other events throughout the year. Explore the area's traditions, textile industry, transport and people. Family-friendly with activity boxes and 'Get your Hands on This' gallery. Art Gallery with varied exhibition programme. Museum Shop and Tourist Information Centre.
Disabled access: Fully accessible.
