DescriptionArchaeological survey report. List of primary sources.
Wellington Mill is now the Museum of Hatting (see Places to visit section).
In July 1994 Greater Manchester Archaeological Contracts was commissioned by Dr. Ghassan Kamha & Partners, Architects and Town Planners, to carry out an archaeological survey of Wellington Mill, Stockport, prior to proposed conversion of the building to housing. A level IV (RCHME) architectural survey of the mill was undertaken and documentary research was carried out into the history of the site.
For the purposes of this report, the Daw Bank elevation of the mill is described as facing north, although technically this is north-west. Measured dimensions are expressed in metric values, ie. metres and millimetres, while the imperial conversion is provided where this is thought to be significant. Numbering of bays within the mill commences at the east end.
