We have included this most famous of Lancashire trade directories as a 'snapshot' of the cotton and textile industries in late Victorian period. Not only does this publication reflect the vast number of cotton concerns in and around Lancashire, but also illustrates the range of services and skills on offer, as well as the number of towns and cities they were available in. This directory was published from 1884 all the way through to 1971 (86th Edition) when the cotton industry was in terminal decline, showing not only the importance but sheer longevity of King Cotton in the North West. |
