Between June & December 1995 the University of Manchester Archaeological Unit carried out a survey as a condition of planning consent for demolition.
Saxon Mill, Droylsden is a large early 20th century cotton spinning mill. The site comprises a large four storey spinning mill, together with an engine house, boiler house and offices. A large reservoir is situated on the north-western side of the main mill building. With the exception of a small office range and electricity generator house, all of the buildings are contemporary. Saxon Mills is situated on Medlock Street, Droylsden and adjacent to the Hollinwood branch of the Manchester and Ashton-under Lyne Canal. |
